Sheffield Lifeboat Appeal (1986/87)

The appeal to fund the new tyne-class lifeboat "City of Sheffield" ran for 18 months in Sheffield and surrounding areas in 1986/87.

A total of approximately £460,000 was raised in this time, including an anonymous donation of £100,000.

The starting point for the appeal was funds awarded to the appeal as benefiting charity of the Sheffield Marathon which, during the period of the appeal amounted to over £50,000.

But the majority of the total raised was from the "usual" events - coffee mornings, raffles, collections, concerts etc.
